PRAYER
While each prior spiritual awakening has had its own unique features, all awakenings share one common element: they all began with people engaging in united, desperate, humble and expectant prayer.
We believe that every prayer for revival/awakening is another log on the fire that we pray grows into a huge conflagration. We are grateful for the growing number of individuals who have committed themselves to pray daily for revival. But it is particularly exciting when folks gather in groups--whether small or large--to cry out for God to move in power.
Almost 300 years ago, Jonathan Edwards wrote a book about prayer for revival/awakening that is still being widely quoted today. The lengthy title of the book explains the fundamental point Edwards is making in the book: "An Humble Attempt to Promote Explicit Agreement and Visible Union of God's People in Extraordinary Prayer for the Revival of Religion and the Advancement of Christ's Kingdom on Earth." In his book, Edwards is encouraging Christians to explicitly agree to pray together on a regular basis with "extraordinary" prayers for revival and awakening. This is not some gimmicky trick: it is simply the way God has chosen to bring revival and awakening to our land.
